Steven M. Mayer is a Southern California lawyer with a general business practice emphasizing the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency law (creditors and debtors, federal and state courts); business transactions, including business formation, contracts and general counseling; real estate transactions; creditor rights; landlord-tenant law; and civil litigation.

As a bankruptcy lawyer, Steven represents businesses and individuals, creditors and debtors, and borrowers and lenders, in restructure, refinance, and insolvency litigation, including state court, federal court, bankruptcy court and in non-judicial Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors proceedings. Steven is also experienced in representing third parties interested in purchasing assets out of bankruptcy.
As a transactional lawyer, Steven represents clients in the selection and formation of new business entities; negotiates and drafts critical contracts, leases, and operating agreements; and advises and protects his clients’ interests in general business disputes.
As a real estate lawyer, Steven represents buyers and sellers, landlords and tenants, brokers and agents, builders and developers, and home staging professionals, in purchase and sale contracts, lease and rental agreements, design and building contracts, as well as in court disputes, easement, property line, and neighbor disputes, unlawful detainer and housing board eviction hearings, and real estate board arbitrations.
As a trial lawyer, Steven represents individuals and publicly and privately held entities in a variety of federal court and state court matters, including business disputes, breach of contract disputes, real estate matters, federal and state court receiverships, consumer finance matters, collection actions, fraudulent and preferential transfer actions, wrongful foreclosure, and lender liability claims.
Steven frequently appears in the courts of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, including courthouses located in the Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica, San Fernando Valley, Woodland Hills, Chatsworth, Lancaster, Palmdale, Van Nuys, and downtown Los Angeles areas.
As a leader in the legal community, Steven keeps current and knowledgeable on emerging issues, new laws, and trends affecting our clients by serving in leadership positions with various legal associations on a national, state-wide and local level.
Steven is a Business Law Fellow of the American Bar Association, Business Law Section, and past Chair of its Advisors and Young Business Lawyers Committees. Steven is also a long time, active member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, a past member of its Board of Governors, and a past-Chair of its Bankruptcy Law Section. Steven currently serves on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California's Solo and Small Firm Section, and the Board of Directors of the Encino Lawyers Association.
Steven received his Juris Doctor degree from the Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is admitted to practice in all California state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
